CASSANDRA TATE worked as a journalist for twenty-five years before earning a PhD in history at the University of Washington in 1995. A former Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, she is the author of Cigarette Wars: The Triumph of “The Little White Slaver.” She contributes to a wide range of print and electronic media, including HistoryLink.org, the online encyclopedia of Washington State history.
