Press and hold and right-tap
Use either or both functions to provide a right-click when you use your pen instead of a mouse. The exact behaviors of these functions are set in the Tablet And Pen Settings control panel.
Top of pen erase
Where available, this shortcut allows you to erase ink without switching tools in Journal and Sticky Notes by pressing and dragging with the top of the pen instead of the point. Some pens also have a barrel button for an eraser. This function must be enabled in the Tablet And Pen Settings control panel.
Double-tap Input Panel title bar
This toggles the input panel between docked and undocked.
Tap to select
In Journal and an ink area, tapping an ink stroke with the Selection Tool will select the entire stroke.
Right-drag selection
In Journal, holding down the pen barrel button while you drag a circle around ink will select that ink and then open the shortcut menu regardless of the tool you have selected.
Windows security key
All tablets have this button to enter the Ctrl+Alt+Del keystroke when a standard keyboard is not attached. Use this button for login and logout as well as opening Task Manager to end non-responding programs.
Hardware buttons
Some tablets have hardware buttons to which you can assign many useful commands and keystrokes. These associations are set in the Tablet And Pen Settings control panel. Some hardware will also have buttons permanently assigned to sleep or hibernate, control of external monitors, turning the wireless network card on and off, or other useful features.
Tap or right-tap the Change Tablet And Pen Settings icon in the notification area
Tapping the Change Tablet And Pen Settings icon opens a shortcut menu, allowing you to toggle the screen or sound on and off and change the screen orientation. The shortcut menu also contains an option to open the Tablet And Pen Settings control panel.
Pressing the Function hardware button twice
If your tablet has a Function hardware button, pressing the Function button twice opens the Change Tablet And Pen Settings shortcut menu.
Tap the Battery/Power icon in the notification area
Tapping the Battery/Power icon opens a shortcut menu of all your custom power schemes to allow quick switching. Double-tapping the icon opens the Power Meter dialog box, which shows the battery charge level. Right-tapping displays a shortcut menu, which includes an option to open the Power Options control panel.
Custom buttons
While not tablet-specific shortcuts, on-screen buttons are even more useful on the tablet. Adding common items to your Quick Launch bar and Start menu and customizing your Office toolbars are very helpful.
Print to Journal Note Writer
Some screen items, such as Web pages, do not import easily into Journal. To import these items, print them to the Journal Note Writer printer.
Copy and paste a sticky note containing audio to the desktop
This is the best way to create a .emf file of the note and a .wav file of the audio and use them outside Sticky Notes.
Paste ink into an Office application without an ink area
Pasting ink into any Office application without opening an ink area first converts it to a picture. This provides many more format options at the expense of editability.
