Chapter 49 - THE ROOMS

A portion of a revelation

In the name of Allah, the merciful, the merciful

Allah commands Muslims to treat Mohammed in a special way. Sins are forgiven for those who lower their voices humbly before Mohammed.

1 O you who have believed, do not be forward between the hands of Allah and his messenger, and fear Allah. Surely Allah is hearing, knowing. 2 O you who have believed, do not raise your voice above the voice of the prophet. And do not speak loud to him as you speak loud to one another so that your works become void, and you will not feel. 3 Surely those who lower their voices before the messenger of Allah are those whom Allah tested their hearts to piety, to them forgiveness and a great wage. 4 Surely those who call you from behind [1] the rooms, most of them do not understand. 5 And surely if they would be patient until you have come out to them, it would be better for them. And Allah is forgiving, merciful. 6 O you who have believed, if a wicked one comes to you with news, so investigate it so that you may not smite people with ignorance, so you will become regretful for what you had done. 7 And know that among you is Allah's messenger. If he would obey you in many of the affairs, then you would have difficulty. But Allah makes you to love the faith and has adorned it in your heart and makes you to hate the infidelity and the transgression and the disobedience. Those are the rightly guided. 8 Bounty from Allah and his grace. And Allah is knowing, wise.

Muslims are brothers. They can only engage in war against another Muslim if they are wrongdoers and then only for reconciliation.

9 And if two parties of the believers should engage in war, so reconcile between them, so if one of them wrongs the other, so engage in war against the one which does the wrong, until they come back to Allah's command. So if they return, so reconcile between them with justice and be fair. Surely Allah loves those who are fair. 10 Surely the believers are only brothers, so reconcile between your brothers and fear Allah, perhaps you may be shown mercy. 11 O you who have believed, let not any of the people scoff at other people, perhaps they are better than them, and not women at women, perhaps they are better than them. And do not defame yourselves, nor call one another by nicknames. Evil is the name of lewdness after the faith, and whoever does not repent, so those are the unjust. 12 O you who have believed, avoid much of the conjecture. Surely some of the conjectures are sin. And do not spy on and do not backbite one another. Does any one of you love to eat the flesh of his dead brother? So you hated it [2] and fear Allah. Surely Allah is relenting, merciful. 13 O you people, surely we created you from male and female, and we have made you into peoples and tribes so that you may know one another. Surely the most generous among you, before Allah, is the most pious among you. Surely Allah is knowing, aware. 14 The Bedouins said, "We believed." Say, "You did not believe. But say, 'We surrender (became Muslim as a result of fear).' And the faith has not entered your hearts. And if you obey Allah and his messenger, he will not decrease anything from your works. Surely Allah is forgiving, merciful."

True believers perform jihad with their money and their lives.

15 Surely the believers are only those who believed in Allah and his messenger. Then they do not doubt, and they performed jihad with their money and their lives for the sake of Allah. Those are the truthful. 16 Say, "Will you teach Allah about your religion when Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is on the earth?" And Allah is knower of all things. 17 They do you a favor if they become Muslims. Say, "Do not do me a favor by becoming Muslim, yet Allah has his favor on you by guiding you to the faith, if you were truthful. 18 Surely Allah knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth, and Allah sees what you do.”
