A few of the chaps were sat around a table after a funeral. Another one of Millwall’s original F-Troop had passed away, and with him had gone over forty years of tales. My 25 years paled into insignificance alongside some of the older chaps, with their stories from the early sixties.
Talk of a book had been quashed before. No one was interested in becoming famous, a celebrity hooligan, but we realised that time waits for no man and it was important that our stories were logged before being lost in history. So a few of us resolved to do something about it this time.
We needed a ghostwriter and were introduced to Andrew Woods. Over the following 12 months we met up with Andrew on many occasions. No One Likes Us, We Don’t Care is the result of all of our meetings.
We would like to thank Andrew for all his effort and we look forward to working with him again on a follow-up book. We would especially like to thank Allie and all at John Blake, for their instant support and backing. Thanks are also due to all the fellas involved who added a lot of minor details, many of which hadn’t been stored by some of our ageing memory banks, to Suzi and June, without whom we would still be at the first draft stage, and to El Capitan Szotowicz, the old war veteran who entertained us with his war stories and provided a great place for us to work.
All of us Millwall fans felt that true stories about Millwall were long overdue, important and relevant. Our names are totally irrelevant. None of us involved in this book wants fame or glory or for any of us to take centre stage. Hence it is Andrew, our ghostwriter, whose name appears on the cover. Faceless hooligans we would all like to remain.
