Vic
I don’t know what the hell happened. I lost my shit. I lost the girl and my damn mind. Maybe booting her car wasn’t the best idea. I tow the General back to Radman’s and wait in the wrecker. When one a.m. rolls round and she doesn’t show up, I drive to Adam’s. It’s the only other place I can think she would go, cause there’s no way she is going to go home. I pull up and there she is—crashed in a living room chair. I’m about to stop but see someone—is that Clayton? He pulls a blanket over her.
I’m done.
Driving toward home, I pass the shop and I see the lights are still on. Well, I know it ain’t Abi, so it has to be Fred. I pull over, get out, and go in. Maybe Fred can help me out of this mess.
“Monkey?” Fred hollers from the office when the door shuts.
“Nope, just me, Fred.”
He comes out of the office, “Vic? What are you doing here, son?”
“I messed up. I messed up really bad. I think I just ruined what we were working toward.”
“Messed what up? We? Who are you talking about?”
“Abi. I got jealous of the new guy. I booted the General. We got into an argument. A very loud and aggressive one.”
“So, our girl is pissed off. I need to warn everyone to stay out of her way. Got it. Now, what’s this about being jealous? Don’t you know a little competition is always good for ya?”
“Fred, he’s new and fresh. Can’t he mess with one of the other girls and leave my girl alone? I have one and only one. I know everyone in school wants her but not like I do. Shit, think about it. There is nobody else like Abi. I want to throw her over my shoulder and take her as far away from here as I can. I hate the life she lives. Just tell me what to do. I’m beggin’ here.”
“Well, I’ll tell ya, Vic. If you want the girl, then you need to fight for her. It also sounds like you have some healthy competition. That’s even better. I’m gonna let ya in on a little secret. If you want the girl, then prove it. Don’t just be here for her. Be there for her always.”
With that, Fred’s gone, and I’m left to decide what I am going to do. So, let the games begin, I guess.
