Bella Merlin
Bella Merlin is an actor, writer and actor-trainer. Acting includes seasons at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival with Tina Packer, the National Theatre with Max Stafford-Clark’s Out of Joint company, roles in theatre, film, television and radio throughout the UK, and the US premieres of her two fact-based dramas, Tilly No-Body: Catastrophes of Love and Nell Gwynne: A Dramatick Essaye on Acting and Prostitution. Writing includes Acting: The Basics and Konstantin Stanislavsky (Routledge), With the Rogue’s Company: Henry IV at the National Theatre (Oberon), Beyond Stanislavsky: The Psycho-Physical Approach to Actor Training and The Complete Stanislavsky Toolkit (Nick Hern Books) and chapters and articles on subjects including Stanislavsky’s Active Analysis, ‘acting with facts’, and Shakespeare and Stanislavsky. She is currently Professor of Acting and Directing at the University of California, Riverside, and Visiting Professor at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Miles Anderson.
