CHAPTER 23

“It’s about time you got rid of that...that...well, person.”  How his mother could make a completely ordinary word sound unwashed and beneath contempt was uncanny.  “Now you can quit that low-class job of yours, move home to help me with your father, and get your old job back in New York City.  Then you finally will be the man we raised you to be.”

It was odd.  When he’d been talking with Grant in the lobby, Macalister had just known his relationship had come to an end.  As much as it hurt, he’d even started to accept it.

But hearing his mother speak about David like that?  Having her tell him that he had to move away from the man he loved more than anyone else on this earth, snapped him out of the funk he’d been in since David walked away.  There was no way he was just going to let the man of his dreams leave him without a fight.

It may have only been a couple of hours that they’d been apart, but Macalister felt as if he’d lived in hell for an eternity in that period of time.  It needed to stop and he would start with his mother’s overbearing, egotistical belief that she had any say in his life.

“No, Mother.”  Macalister wasn’t sure who was more shocked that he was finally once more standing up to his mother, her or him.  “I will not be moving to New Haven, or anywhere else.  My home is with David in Dahlonia.  I was an idiot to just let David walk away, and just as soon as I find him I will fall down on my knees and beg him to take me back, because my life will never be complete unless he is by my side.”

She gasped in outrage, but Macalister barely registered the sound when he heard David’s sweet voice behind him. “Do you mean it?”

Macalister whirled to face the man he loved and did exactly as he’d said he would.  He dropped to his knees, ignoring the pain of them hitting the hard floor.  He looked up into those blue eyes that he could get lost in for the rest of his life.  “Every word.  You were right.  I was being an ass and I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness for the way I treated you, but I beg you to do so anyway.  Please, take me back.”

Tears streamed down his face as he waited for his fate to be decided.  Fearing the worst, he found himself unable to breathe when David stepped right up to him and knelt on the floor in front of him.  “Only if you can forgive me.  You needed me and I walked away.  I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to find it within me to stop blaming myself for leaving you, but I pray you can find it in your heart to take me back.”

There were no words Macalister could have said that would have conveyed how happy he was, so he didn’t bother trying.  Instead, he cupped David’s face and brought him closer for a heartfelt kiss.

“Stop that at once,” Macalister’s mother hissed out.

If he wasn’t so busy kissing the man he loved, he would have told her where she should shove it.  He wasn’t letting David go ever again.

It was that thought and not his mother yanking on his arm in an effort to separate them that had Macalister ending the kiss to stare into David’s eyes.  “I love you more than I ever even knew was possible to love a person.  You are the kindest, most amazing man I’ve ever known.  David Wilson, will you marry me?”

At first David could only nod, but after a few moments, with tears shining from his sparkling blue eyes, he finally answered, “Yes, of course, I’ll marry you.”

“No.  I won’t allow it.”  But they ignored his mother as their mouths met again in another kiss that had them both wanting so much more.

Only when Macalister was confident that David felt how much he loved him, did Macalister pull away.  Standing, he held a hand out to help David to his feet.  Side by side, they both faced his mother.  What he hadn’t expected was for his brother, Grant, to come up and stand on the other side of David in solidarity.

“Whether you approve of me marrying David or not, I can promise you, Mother, that’s exactly what’s going to occur.”  David squeezed his hand, letting Macalister know he was right there if he needed his love.  “As for father, you need to make a choice about his care.”

She stood there for several moments, shock written all over his face.  That she was unhappy was in every tense line of her body.  “I can’t have him in our home when he can’t even speak.  What would visitors think?”

Why he was surprised that was his mother’s first thought, Macalister wasn’t sure.  His mother had always been fairly selfish.

“You know, I always knew you were a bitch, but that’s cold, even for you.”  Grant said the words Macalister had bitten his tongue to hold back.  A part of him wished he could be as blunt as Grant when it came to their parents.  Maybe he would have had a relationship with his brother instead of them basically being strangers.

Wishing for things to have been different wouldn’t do him any good at this point.  All Macalister could do now was reach out to brother and hope Grant would want a relationship with him.  But first, he needed to cement the one with David.

“I will find him a nursing home that can take him once he’s stable,” Macalister told him mother.  Then, in an effort to make some effort with Grant, he turned to his brother.  “I’m going back to the hotel with David for the night, but would you like to meet us for breakfast?”

The smile he received made Macalister glad he’d done it.  “I would love that.”

They quickly made arrangements for the following morning, then Macalister led David toward the elevators.

“Where do you think you’re going?” his mother shrieked.  “You can’t leave me here by myself.”

“Actually, I can,” Macalister assured her.  “And I am.  It’s time I remind David just how much I love him.”

Thankfully, the elevator doors opened and they were able to step inside.  Not that it stopped his mother from continuing her tirade about Macalister being a disappointment to the entire family.  Just as the doors closed, he heard Grant tell her to, “Shut up.”

Big blue eyes stared at him in wonder.  “Are you sure you want to leave.  I mean, I know your father is stable, but if you’d prefer to stay, I would understand.”

Macalister wanted to kick his own ass for almost losing this amazing man.  Lifting his hands, he cupped David’s face and leaned in until he breathing in the love of his life.  “I love you, David Wilson and right now, the only place I belong is buried deep inside your tight ass.”

Lust flared in those gorgeous eyes as their lips touched in a soft kiss.  He would have deepened it, but the elevator had come to a stop and the door opened to let in others going down to the lobby.  When it came to David, PDAs were becoming as easy as breathing, but a full on make out session wasn’t exactly appropriate, especially in a hospital.  No matter how tempted he was.

The moment the hotel room door closed, Macalister shoved David up against the nearest wall and took the kiss he’d been craving since his heart had been shattered as he watched David walk away from him.  His hands made quick work of their clothes as he continued his assault on David’s mouth.

Letting out a groan as skin touched skin, Macalister knew this was where he belonged.  David was everything to him.  His heart and soul.  More than that, he was home, a place Macalister had never truly had until meeting this amazing man.

He dragged his hands around David’s body and gripped the globes of his ass.  David didn’t hesitate to jump up and wrap his legs around Macalister’s waist.  Macalister turned to head for the bed, not stopping until David was lying on the mattress, and he was on top of David.

“I’m going to worship every inch of you,” he murmured as his lips moved along David’s jaw, while his hands stroked the softest skin he’d ever known.  That, according to David, was thanks to a moisturizing routine he swore by.

Macalister wasn’t sure he was buying that.  To him, all of David was perfect.  But who was he to argue with his lover’s daily skin care routine?  Either way, Macalister was addicted to touching David, even when it was nothing more than his hand, arm or face when they were in public.

It was surreal how quickly he’d become accustomed to something like touching another.  But that was just it.  It wasn’t anyone, only David.  From the moment they’d met, there had been something magical about David that had broken through all of Macalister’s walls he’d carefully built around his heart since he’d been a child.

His lips brushed across David’s right nipple, causing his lover to shiver and moan softly.  When he sucked it into his mouth, David’s hands went around Macalister’s head as if to hold him there even as he arched up.

Even sex with David was about so much more than getting off like it had been in the past.  His love was too sensual to just fuck and be done.  Macalister enjoyed making David crazy with need.  He never would have thought that would be possible a few short months ago.

Macalister hadn’t been sure he’d have been capable of wanting someone else’s please more than his own.  Then David walked into his life and Macalister could easy spend all day making love to him.  He knew, because they had a time or two even in the short time they’d known each other.

“Please,” David begged, his hips pushing up, causing their cocks to slid together.

Groaning with need, Macalister reached for the lube and condoms they’d placed in the top drawer of the bedside table the night they’d checked.  It was as he pushed his finger into David’s tight heat, that his love said, “We need to get tested when we get home so we can ditch those stupid condoms.”

Macalister ground his teeth together to stop the orgasm that threatened to tear through him at the thought of being inside David bare.  It wasn’t something he’d ever considered in the past, but with David, he wanted it.

“Maybe we can do it at the hospital tomorrow,” he barely managed to get out as he struggled to keep the need to forget the condom altogether and just drive into David like an animal.

By the time he rolled the latex on, Macalister was sure he’d end up coming with just the touch of his hand as he slicked himself up.  Refusing to allow that to happen, he placed the head at David’s entrance.

As he pushed in, Macalister stared into those pretty blue eyes.  He was sure he was looking right into David’s soul and was blown away.  Leaning down, he kissed those lush lips as he thrust deeper.  The kiss was sloppy as their bodies moved, but neither of them cared.

All that mattered was their connection as they poured the love they felt for each other into every touch.  He’d never been a religious man before, but in that moment, Macalister prayed there was a heaven so he would be with David for all eternity, for a lifetime would never be enough.

“Harder, Mac,” David demanded.

The sound of his shortened name caused his cock to throb as he increased the pace.  Not sure he’d last much longer, he wrapped his hand around David’s heated flesh and stroked him in time with this thrusts.

“Yes,” David shouted a few strokes later as fluid spilled over Macalister’s hand.

The muscles surrounding Macalister’s dick clamped down, which was all it took for him to tumble over the edge into bliss.  Then again, when it came to David, all Macalister knew was happiness and peace.

He might have almost blown it earlier that day, but Macalister swore he would do whatever it took to make the love of his life as blissfully happy as he was when they were together.
