The Author

Paul J. Giannone retired from the Centers for Disease Control on September 24, 2014, having worked in international and domestic public health and emergency response for over 40 years, covering more than 35 countries. In 2017 Paul and his wife, Kate, fulfilled a dream by moving back to Hillsborough, North Carolina. Their daughter, Kara, is attending Emory University and, like her dad, will receive a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree in May 2019.

The Giannones enjoy the small-town atmosphere of Hillsborough as well as the cultural and recreational events in nearby Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh. They also enjoy golfing, gourmet cooking, the North Carolina beaches, travel, and reading. What Paul cherishes most is being with Kate, Kara and the many friends he has collected throughout the world. He is famous for saying “I never give up on my friends.”

Paul looks forward to organizing the 20,000 slides he took over 40 years, continuing to write and being publically active.
