Can you imagine a “mystery pool” hidden somewhere on your campus? In a place that only the teachers know about? A pool so wonderful and amazing that they don’t allow students to even know it exists? It can’t be true, can it?
The urban legends surrounding the mysterious swimming pool come in various forms, but they all revolve around the idea that in just about every middle school across America, there’s a hidden swimming pool that only the teachers get to use. Now, for a swimming pool to be hidden so well that students never find it takes some creativity, doesn’t it? Never fear, urban legends thrive on creativity. Some of the legends say the pool is actually on the roof and the teachers know of a special staircase leading up to it. Other legends say that in schools with multiple floors, there’s actually an entire floor of the building that students don’t know about! Supposedly, on this hidden floor there are all kinds of amazing things for the teachers—one of which is the pool.
This urban legend would have to fall under the category of a conspiracy theory. A conspiracy theory is when somebody or a group of people believe they are purposely being lied to about some sort of information or a situation. So the idea of a “teachers only” swimming pool hidden somewhere on your campus is a classic conspiracy theory.
Think about it for a second: Why would teachers want to swim together? How many grown-ups do you know who take breaks out of their busy day to swim with their buddies? Also consider the cost. For the price of a swimming pool, your school could get the teachers all kinds of stuff they’d rather have. Most teachers would rather have a fancy new coffeemaker or a hidden stash of paper clips.
So we don’t believe this urban legend is true. It just isn’t logical. But you don’t have to believe us; after all, your teachers could be paying us to protect their secret.
Anyhow, we gotta go. We’ve been invited to a cool pool party on the roof of some building you know very well.
