Many people have a place they go where they feel closer and more in tune with their spirit. For some, it’s a church, or a mosque, or a temple. For others, it’s simply a room in their homes with a single lit candle.
While sacred places and quiet spaces work for me, the place I feel most connected with my spiritual side is anywhere near the ocean in my homeland of Trinidad, preferably around dawn. There’s just something about being on a small island, listening to the sound of the kiskadees at first light, mingled with the crashing of the waves that makes me realize that we are very, very small, and the universe is very, very big.
And I can’t help but wonder at the miracle of it all.
