Views on Agelessness

Twenty Truths I Wish I’d Known Twenty Years Ago
  1. It is never a mistake to try something, even if it doesn’t work out the way you planned.
  2. You can never get in trouble by thoughtfully, respectfully speaking your mind.
  3. It’s never too late to change who you are, as long as by doing so you’re becoming more authentic.
  4. Being kind is never wrong, and being a doormat is never right. The trick is doing the one and avoiding the other at the same time.
  5. Help someone every day, even if it seems like an insignificant gesture. It may matter to that person more than you can fathom. And one of the greatest joys in life is helping another person succeed.
  6. True sexiness and sensuality have so little to do with body measurements.
  7. Physical health depends more on internal happiness than most of us realize.
  8. There’s always a kind way to tell the truth.
  9. There’s no such thing as an uncreative person. There’s just someone who clings to a narrow definition of “creativity.”
  10. The most important practices are meditation, movement, learning and gratitude. Do each, in some form or fashion, every day. And if doing one of the four qualifies as “play”: bonus points.
  11. Be Yourself, but when reducing Yourself to writing (either on paper or on a computer), reduce Yourself to the Best You Possible. Both paper and the Internet have very long memories.
  12. There is very little that five minutes of steady, deep, focused breathing can’t improve.
  13. All of us, no matter where in the world we happen to be, should travel to a foreign country alone at least once. It’s good for the soul and for the perspective.
  14. There will always come a time when the choice must be made to either do it “the way it has always been done,” or the way your soul tells you is right. No matter how initially painful, doing what is right always feels best in the long run.
  15. A heartfelt dream combined with belief and hard work always results in success — even if the outcome is unexpected.
  16. Never believe what people tell you that you were “meant” to do, or what they say you were “cut out” to do. Ultimately, you are the only person who knows. Everyone else is invariably wrong.
  17. If you’re going through a rough patch, now is a perfect time to treat yourself like you would treat a friend going through a similar situation. I find a double-decker ice cream cone can do wonders.
  18. When it comes to fashion and beauty, magazines are sources of inspiration, not playbook rules. Use accordingly.
  19. Labels are for the unimaginative. Reject labels. Do what you are called to do.
  20. People don’t age because time passes. They age because they forget to look at the world with wonder. Never stop looking for the wonderful.
