Using the guide

With so much to see and do, this guide provides plenty of signposts to help you find your way around!

This guide is divided into five main chapters, each covering a large region of France. Each is colour-coded and opens with a regional overview map, so that you can locate places on your journey across the country, or near your destination; a ‘minimap’ shows where in France the region lies. Each entry is pinpointed on the map, and is also colour-coded, to match the section in which it appears.

All of the main chapters carry colour-coded top bars.

The colour-coded icons at the top of each page help you to quickly locate a particular section.

Each chapter is divided into five sections, each carrying a colour-coded tab at the page edge and a unique symbol in the top corner. The number of entries in each section varies by region; Paris & the Ile-de-France, for example, has relatively few Motorsport events, but lots of Market Place entries, covering automobilia as well as cars. Most entries are presented in alphabetical order, but the country’s biggest attractions, such as Rétromobile or Le Mans Classic, appear on a double-page spread at the start of that section.

Each entry follows a consistent format, with the text and photographs providing a snapshot of the place or event, its history and how to enjoy it, whether as a participant or as a visitor.

A handy ‘Practical information’ section provides details including the time of year or opening hours, the organiser’s website URL and, whenever possible, a contact phone number and e-mail. The street address and GPS coordinates are given for each entry, together with information on public transport when this is convenient. If you have a smartphone or tablet, scanning the QR code will take you to the entry’s websites. For circuit entries, there’s a track diagram, too.

At the end of the guide, Reference information and Event calendar chapters provide tips on driving in France and an overview of the year’s events, with Further reading suggestions completing the guide.
