Lisa’s Amazing Appetizer
Lisa West of Raleigh, North Carolina, serves this snack at parties of all kinds, and she says it’s always a hit. Dedicated cooks may recognize this recipe as a twist on the French classic brie en croûte—but this version is easy, Southern style.
SERVES 6 TO 8
1 |
8-ounce package refrigerated crescent rolls |
1 |
8-ounce package cream cheese |
1 |
large egg, beaten |
|
Crackers for serving |
|
Hot pepper relish for serving |
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Remove the crescent roll dough from the package and gently press it out into a rectangle, sealing any perforations. Place the whole block of cream cheese in the center of the dough. Pull the sides of the dough up to completely cover the cream cheese. Press the dough firmly to seal, being careful not to tear the dough.
- Place the wrapped cheese on a nonstick cookie sheet. Brush the top and sides with the beaten egg. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the dough is browned.
- Place on a platter and serve warm surrounded by crackers, with hot pepper relish in a small bowl on the side.
EXTRA POINTS This is best served immediately after baking.
