INTERVIEW LIST

Though I’ve been working on this book in earnest for only the last few years, I consider it the product of a lifetime of study—the culmination of my love for and interest in the Rolling Stones that began when I was banned from my brother’s room, reached a crescendo when, miraculously, I fell inside the speaker, turning up on the bus and plane and stage and wings and guitar rooms and hangouts and bars with the boys, and has continued through this long cool-down that has been my life. More than the Stones, it’s been about rock ’n’ roll, which is everything. I’ve listed the interviews that have formed the background and bedrock of this project—not just the people I have interviewed recently, though there were dozens, but those that I met in the course of my journalism and life who have filled me in and told me how things work. There are three questions a writer has to answer. What happened? That’s the first, and the easiest. A lot of people can give you that. The others are more precious, strange. What did it feel like? What did it mean?
