I developed a freemium platform that helped users skyrocket their Twitter engagement and make their tweets go viral. It helped me attract 1200+ qualified leads organically within 3 months. My upsell service was Twitter organic targeted followers growth. Listing a few reputed organizations that signed up on my platform: UBER, UNESCO, Candere by Kalyan Jewellers, Stuhrling, FreshChat, BBN Times, and 1200+ more.
You can cross-sell and upsell your agency services to the people who’re signing up for your freemium product. Also, you can create a new revenue stream for yourself by introducing ‘Land and Expand’ freemium pricing model to your tool.
First, you'll need to come up with a product idea.
It shouldn’t be a vitamin, it should be a painkiller. In other words, it
shouldn’t be a “nice-to-have” tool, it should be a “must-have” tool.
Recognize some hot-button issues in your niche. Check if that product idea complements the services that you want to be a recognized expert for. Go with that. It should be something that hasn't already been developed or must be better than all the existing solutions.
Perhaps, you can develop a product that solves your own problems related to a particular business function in your niche. Most probably other people in your industry are also frustrated about the same problem.
Once you have a product idea, talk to developers in your team or hire agencies or freelance developers who can help you figure if it is technically feasible to build it.
The product can be a web app, chrome extension, mobile app or a desktop app.
Build an MVP. You have to keep the development costs low as this tool is just complementary to your services. Think of it as a lead magnet.
Based on my experience, it is much cheaper to build chrome extensions and desktop apps. But web apps gain a lot of traction.
Build a helpful functional tool that establishes trust to your brand and the users will eventually pay for your complementary services.
Build apps so valuable that businesses have no choice but to see it as the ultimate solution to their problem, no matter how small is the problem that you are trying to solve.
