5. In theEducation of Cyrus (VIII.8.16) Xenophon spoke of Persian carpets as a proof of Persian degeneracy, but Greeks were good at enjoying what they professed to despise in Persia. Timasion had at any rate in his possession a carpet worth 1000 drachmae.
6. A contemporary of Xenophon would instantly think of Alcibiades, who retired to his forts in the Chersonese when he finally fell into disfavour at Athens(H.G. I.5.16).
