CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE
CHARLOTTE
When she could get away from the Inn, Charlotte walked over to Granny Liz’s to find Shane. He was having dinner with his grandparents, and she needed to talk to him. She was still shaken by the wedding disaster.
Granny Liz greeted her at the door. “C’mon in. Shane and Sam are sitting out back. I heard about the disaster you had at the Inn. What happened?”
“I’m not sure. I overheard a lot of conversation. Brooke and Livy didn’t think things were right from the beginning. The bride didn’t seem the least bit excited. Then during dinner, I heard whispers about the bride being pregnant, which forced the marriage. Obviously, it wasn’t something the groom really wanted.”
“Poor girl,” Granny Liz said. “They should’ve determined that before going through all the motions. How was the bride’s mother?”
“Funny you should ask. I think the proper word is stoic. The groom’s parents didn’t stay, of course, but the best man did because he’s dating one of the bridesmaids. Nevertheless, it was awkward.”
“I can well imagine,” said Granny Liz. “We won’t have to worry about anything like that with you and Shane. He told us he’s pretty excited about the day you two become official.”
Shane was such a dear man, Charlotte thought, feeling extra lucky.
