The author uses a lot of speech to help tell the story and to give us an idea of the way the characters speak.
Look back through the text and find some examples of where the author has used layout and punctuation to help the reader understand how the character is speaking. Which ones do you think are effective?
Can you think of other ways you could use layout to help show how words are being spoken by a character?
