KAMAL AL-SOLAYLEE, an associate professor at the School of Journalism at Ryerson University, was previously a distinguished writer at Canada’s national newspaper The Globe and Mail. He also worked at Report on Business magazine and has written features and reviews for the Toronto Star, National Post, The Walrus, Toronto Life, Chatelaine, the Literary Review of Canada and Elle Canada. Al-Solaylee’s bestselling memoir, Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes, was the winner of the Toronto Book Award and a finalist for the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction, the Lambda Literary Award, the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Nonfiction and CBC’s Canada Reads. Al-Solaylee holds a PhD in English from the University of Nottingham. He lives in Toronto.
