STIBNITE IS IN THE FAMILY OF SULFIDES and usually forms in long, dark, metallic crystals. It is relatively fragile, with a Mohs hardness of 2, but interestingly, it is used extensively to harden lead. Because of its fascinating crystal structure, it is also popular with mineral collectors. The largest deposits of stibnite are found in the Hunan province of China, with other notable locations in Japan, Bolivia, and Romania.

Stibnite is used in gem therapy to encourage spiritual rebirth. It is associated with Hades, the god of the underworld, and its dark, spiny structure is reminiscent of what one may associate with that realm. It can be used in rounding exercises and with those who hope to attain new perspectives on their own existence. It is also believed to help fight both internal and external physical infections.
