KATHERINE APPLEGATE and MICHAEL GRANT began their writing careers as co-authors, creating the Islanders and several other series together. The Islanders was inspired by their time together in Portland, Maine, a town for which they continue to feel great affection. Since those long-ago days, Michael has become a New York Times bestselling author with his Gone and Messenger of Fear series, and Katherine has won the 2013 Newbery Medal for her novel The One and Only Ivan.
They live in northern California with their two children and assorted pets.
