For these sketches, you’ll want to use graphite pencils with intensities that vary from 4B (medium dark) to 6B (dark) on the graphite grading scale. These pencils allow you to create very dark, thick lines as well as light gray surfaces, depending on how hard you press. Try blending the drawing by rubbing certain lines with a kneaded eraser, a finger, or a cardboard blending stump.
Redraw the outline of the body and give your bear or koala a thick, ruffled coat.
Try to erase the original body outline as much as possible. Sketch small, light lines on the body and rub to blend them together, giving the fur a soft look.
Finish the fur coat by leaving a few unshaded, white areas.
If you enhance the shading on one side of the body, your bear or koala will look more rounded and realistic.
Darken a few details and add some more small lines to make the coat bushier.
