Like the pencil, the ballpoint pen allows for lines of different intensities. You can create everything from a light gray line by pressing lightly to a thick black line by pressing harder and overlapping the lines. Felt-tips, on the other hand, will always produce very dark lines.
Start by redrawing the contours of the beetle with a ballpoint pen, and then outline some patterns.
Fill in the patterns and add areas with dark, tight hatching. You can partially overlap these shaded sections to make them more intense.
Now use the felt-tip marker to draw the outlines of the ladybug. Darken the legs and the antennae.
The ballpoint pen will help darken and add depth to several areas, with lines going in different directions. Make sure the front of the beetle is darker than the back.
Finish by adding some spots that look like stains.
