The group theater of necessity, to fulfill their vision, had to eventually produce their own playwright. That playwright was Clifford Odets. I have always thought of Scott as Playhouse West’s Clifford Odets. Both are distinguished by a very unique use of dialogue. Clifford’s characters spoke like no one had ever spoken in plays before. Scott Caan’s characters speak like no on has ever spoken in plays before.

His writing is thoroughly original, filled with a sly humor only Scott Caan could produce, and a kind of dialogue that I can only attempt to describe as street poetry. His plays speak to his moment in history. Like all good writers, he confines himself to only writing what he knows, and he knows a lot.
