Fictional Afterword

Nothing was seen or heard of Joseph Lind until after the Tories and redcoats abandoned Boston aboard British warships and sailed north to Nova Scotia in April 1776. But he was later seen boarding one of the British ships just before it sailed out of Boston Harbor, and word was received later that he died aboard that ship.

As one of General Gage’s aides, Colonel Paxman returned to England in October 1775 without ever discovering the whereabouts of Gideon Whitlock.

Jake, Mina, and Ezra remained at Stowell farm to help Mistress Stowell and Bethy run the home and farm. They also continued to help Mistress Blood.

Caroline Lind fully recovered her health and remained at Stowell farm until a year later when she learned that Joseph had died. She then went to Philadelphia to join her daughter and new grandbaby.
