Sometimes it’s just a bad day or a rough patch you can manage on your own. Other times, you need a bit more help. If you feel like you need support that friends and family can’t provide, it might be time to book in with a doctor, psychologist, or counsellor.
I’m not going to pretend getting the right support is easy — I know first-hand the limitations of our mental-health system — but don’t lose hope if your first attempt doesn’t feel like the right fit. It can be a process of trial and error before you find a clinician you feel comfortable with, but it’s worth persevering. Referrals from friends are a good place to start.
