Nothing is ever completely for keeps. You are on the verge of a time when the global environment, gravely damaged by the frenzy for profit, will be re-landscaped. Although this prospect has been easily discernible for decades, it has taken almost thirty years for the herd of bureaucratized thinkers to notice it.
Just yesterday, under the looming threat of nuclear war, the trumpets of the Apocalypse sounded all around the world. This was followed by an ecological catastrophism that, with admirable conviction, warned of another Apocalypse, the latest, namely the desertification of the world.
Now, however, new songs of triumph are intruding upon the whining and wailing: voices raised heavenward in celebration of a neocapitalism resolved to “improve the lot of the people” while actually swindling them yet again. The funeral oration for a finance capital about to implode has caught the attention of wily scavengers computing the revenue to be derived from a “gentle exploitation” of nature.
A new breed of profiteers is slowly emerging from the shadows, driven by a desire to reanimate the economy and purge a source of income dangerously contaminated by the crookery of stock market dealings and the proliferation of virtual money.
Let us not be fooled. A capitalism with ethical pretentions can only cloak the old exploitation of man by man in the garb of the old humanism. What a fine celebration of nature it is to exalt free energy sources to the skies while simultaneously charging users top dollar! What is actually involved here? The answer is a juicy contract founded on greed and guaranteed by nature’s bounty rendered profitable.
But what could be more inconsequential than becoming outraged by this, while by the same token an extraordinary opportunity is presented to us: the chance to plunge into the deepening and widening gap between capitalism on the decline and a new guard on the rise and determined to replace it. Surely it behooves us to intervene, so that the forces of life can sweep away the profit economy and arrogate to themselves the right to unquestionable preeminence?
The apathy and voluntary servitude of peoples gives international mafias a free hand to poison foodstuffs, air, water, and earth. Do not imagine that a voluntaristic and ethical humanism could ever suffice to restore the planet to some natural state. The global denaturing of human beings and the world is what has to be contested.
Beneath the cover that the spectacle drapes over everything like a soporific veil, individual creativity is spreading and reviving, laying the groundwork of a radical new society. Each individual is awakening with their own insight within the obscurity to which the dominant system condemns everything that the projectors of media power fail to illuminate.
Whatever is discovered in the future with respect to sustainable and free energy belongs to all and not to the market. Only a self-managed society is capable of perfecting such discoveries and dedicating them to the common good.
