Letter From the Author

Dear Friend,

You never know when a story idea might spark. Or from where

In September 2020, I received an email from a reader in my Facebook group. I’d mentioned I was researching inns for a book I was writing, and Gwenn generously gifted me a copy of Bed & Breakfast Magazine that included an article featuring her inn, Blessings on State. I was so moved by her interview, I replied to her email less than an hour later confessing that while I was reading, I kept thinking this should be a story. I told her I wasn’t sure when I’d have time in my writing schedule, but if she was open to the possibility, I’d love to write a novel loosely based on her story. She graciously granted me permission, and in January of the following year, I emailed her my ideas, which included adding her gorgeous bed and breakfast to the book cover.

While the exact details of this story differ from Gwenn’s, I incorporated three direct inspirations: (1) Gwenn’s heart for foster children, (2) her appreciation for our veterans, and (3) the community-centric love and support displayed during Elves Weekend. All three of these themes are touched upon in Blessings on State Street and will continue throughout the series. Oh, did I mention that Gwenn’s article sparked an entire series?

I’ll forever be amazed by the magic of stories and the enigmatic way they come into being. I sincerely hope you enjoy Blessings Bay and all the wonderful, caring characters who live there. But more than that, I hope you read my interview with Gwenn at the end of this book, because her story is even more beautiful than fiction.

As always, I’d love to hear from you.
