THE ALMIGHTY GOOGLE

When I wake up, I crawl over to my desk and google “Gay Parenting for Dummies.” That just brings up a bunch of books about how to be a gay person with kids, not what to do if your kid is gay. So I google “What to do if your kid is gay.”

The first article that comes up is titled “When Your Teen Child Says He’s Gay.” One glance through it and my stomach knots up.

It is painful and confusing when your child claims he is gay. Rest in your faith and know that reconciliation with God is always possible. Consider:

Does your son seem confused? Is he struggling and ashamed? He may need a firmer hand.

Attraction is out of our control, but behavior is a matter of conscious, willful choice. Biblical values are stronger than the whims of the body.

Do not turn your back—maintain a godly presence in his life. Do your research, following the light of God’s truth, and seek solace in the support of a Christian community. Let scripture guide your words and actions.

Does your son know Christ?
