SOURCES

This tribute has been compiled from primary and secondary sources as well as personal records and also from experience recalled some time after the events occurred. Some of the chapters have been vetted by the First Sea Lords of the day, and the Association is very grateful to them for that assistance.

Frustratingly, even primary sources have at times proved contradictory and in such cases lack of time has forced us to resort to the time-honoured method of ‘best guess’. There will inevitably be those who dispute some detail or other as well as those disappointed that we have failed to include their details; we can only apologise in advance, pointing out that we have attempted to act in good faith throughout the production of this book.

The Association is extremely grateful to all the many people who have helped in their different ways to ensure the accuracy and coverage of the last fifty years of the Royal Navy.
