Morocco is located in northernmost Africa and separated from Europe by just fifteen miles of ocean called The Strait of Gibraltar. At the turn of the twentieth century, Morocco was a wild and lawless country ruled by tribal warlords, desperate bandits, marauding pirates, heartless politicians, and wandering nomads.
To complicate matters even further, England, France, and Germany—the whole of the European powers—sat watching Morocco like three cats eyeing a mouse, waiting for the opportune moment to pounce. Each country wanted the country as their own prize, and they were prepared to invade and attack at any moment.
Morocco in 1912 was a dangerous and desperate country. A country with an uncertain future on the brink of war.
