Epilogue

“I don’t know which is more annoying,” Rebecca remarked to Jacob. “My mamm’s relief or Caleb’s smugness. Look at them over there, chatting.”

The November morning was crisp but dry. A light dusting of snow lay on the ground as she and Jacob helped with some of the final preparations for their wedding.

Their extended families had arrived a couple days before, ecstatic at the union they were here to witness...especially Rebecca’s mother.

“I feel sorry for your mamm in some ways,” teased Jacob. “You’re the last of her kinner to get married. She’s out of children to matchmake. What will she do with her time now?”

Jacob burst out laughing. Then, still chuckling, he pulled her into his arms. “I love you.”

“The bees were simply a means to an end. I didn’t know that at first, but Gott did.” He made a comical grimace. “And maybe Caleb.”

“Funny how he didn’t need a daadi haus after all. He was happy to swap with me and take over my cabin.”

“Caleb is a smart man, and he’s already looking forward to grandchildren to dandle on his knee.”

“Meanwhile...” Rebecca smiled at her soon-to-be husband and gestured toward the room being set up. “There’s enough celery to deck every table. It’s a gut thing you suggested planting as much as you did.”

He grinned back. “Let’s just say I had high hopes.”
