Introduction
I was interested for a number of years in the implications of cloning upon parenthood and human relations. I first wrote a story of a father and a cloned son, “My Son, My Self,” that was a Writers of the Future contest winner, and which appeared in my first collection. People seemed to find that story thought-provoking. Some men who read it thought that a father could never consider “using” his son—cloned or not. They felt it would be more realistic if the pair were a mother and a daughter.
