TWENTY-SIXTH SONG

To Bishop Ioann Kozlovych, who enters the city of Pereyaslav at the rank of Bishop in 1753. From this seed: “May your light shine before the people who saw your good deeds....”

Hasten, Guest! Hurry up!

Crown our wishes.

Like splendid music that you hear,

The spirit moves the body with sweetness [near],

Hence your arrival expected by all

Has uplifted the whole city and people.

Sorrowful city! O, Pereyaslav!

Often recognizing your orphanhood,

Be wary of betraying the most high.

Illumine this bright day for you!

Your ship has been frantic along the waves.

Behold your navigator once again in the ship.

He will make right your path to the heavens,

Presenting the light of Christ’s words.

In Him you will see the fruit of the spirit,

Like in the mirror of transparent waters,

For the lamb following Christ?

Humbly will cleanse impurity.

Both with deed and language

He will make your spirit whole that is poisoned by sin.

To what amount of honest flesh is the spirit,

To what amount of the earthly is the heavenly circle,

To what amount the enemy of the soul’s passions

Be better than the healers of the flesh.

Christ! Holy spring of blessings.

Pour out your sprit onto the shepherd.

Be an example for him.

So that in looking at him every man

Would enter his flock,

And extend him a happy life.

The End.
