Chipotle peppers are another secret ingredient. They are actually just smoked jalapeño peppers. So, in one little concoction you get smoke and heat. Canned chipotles come in a flavorful sauce that’s also great to amp up other sauces. Here, we use dry ground chipotle powder. But don’t rule out the canned stuff.
2/3 cup honey
¼ cup water
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
-
In a small saucepan over medium heat on the stovetop, whisk together honey, water, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, chipotle chili powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, stirring constantly.
-
Bring to a boil and immediately reduce the heat to low.
-
Simmer the sauce for 5 minutes and remove from the heat.
-
Let cool. Note, it will thicken as it cools.
-
Serve hot over chicken, pork or vegetables, or use as a marinade.
-
Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
