You’ll feel adventurous when you mix a little Star Anise into your barbecue. Star Anise is actually the fruit of a small evergreen tree and it adds that very distinct licorice taste to chai teas, pumpkin spice flavors as well as this Chinese five spice blend.
2 tablespoons ground star anise
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
2½ teaspoons ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground fennel seeds
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
-
In a small bowl, whisk together star anise, cinnamon, cloves, fennel, and pepper until well-combined.
-
Use this potent spice sparingly to give meat and vegetable dishes an Asian twist.
-
Store in an air-tight container for up to a month.
