Tip

Since it’s much easier to feel these stitches than it is to see them, you may find it helpful to use the thumb and fingers of the hand holding the yarn to help guide your hook to the two stitches in Step 20.

CROCHET IN THE ROUND

STEP 1: Start with a row of ch sts. Dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in each ch across.

STEP 2: Make 3 more dc in the last ch of the row (for a total of 4 dc in the end st).

STEP 3: Working on the opposite side of the ch, and being careful to work in the rem lps, dc in the next st.

STEP 4: Dc across the row to the last ch. Hide the loose strand by crocheting around it alongside the ch.

STEP 5: Work 3 dc in the last ch of the row.

STEP 6: Connect to the 1st dc of the row using a sl st. (Do not work in the ch-2.)

STEP 7: Clip the loose strand from the ch if it has been hidden with crochet, as mentioned in Step 4. Otherwise, hide the tail with a yarn needle before trimming.

DIAMOND

STEP 1: Rows 1–3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Row 4: Sc in the 1st st.

STEP 2: Yo the back of the hook twice.

STEP 3: Sk 3 sc on Row 1, fptr around the next sc (still on Row 1).

KNOTTED FRINGE

STEP 1: Gather yarn, scissors and a sturdy book or piece of cardboard. Loosely wrap the yarn around the book or cardboard, being careful not to pull too tightly.

STEP 2: While holding the yarn in place, carefully cut the strands.

STEP 3: Now the evenly cut strands are ready to be used for fringe.

STEP 4: Carefully align the strands for your tassel. Fold them in half so that the ends are even at one end.

STEP 5: Insert the hook into the place where the tassel will be connected. Place all of the strands on the hook.

STEP 6: Pull through a st along the bottom.

STEP 7: Place all strands over the back of the hook.

STEP 8: Pull all the strands through.

STEP 9: Pull gently until the tassel is secured.

STEP 10: Knot the fringe by taking all of the end tassel strands and half of the next tassel’s strands and wrapping to form a simple knot 1" (2.5cm) to 114" (3.2cm) below the tassel connection. Gently pull to tighten, adjusting the position as you go.

STEP 11: Using the rem strands from the last tassel, add half of the strands from the next tassel. Form a knot, pulling gently to tighten and adjusting the position to line up with the prev knot.

STEP 12: Trim all of the strands across the bottom to make the tassels even.

KNURL (REVERSE SC)

STEP 1: Row 1: (This row will be worked left to right.) Working only in the front lp of the prev sc row, sk the first sc and insert the hook into the next sc (to the right of the hook).

STEP 2: Hook the yarn and pull through to the left of the lp on the hook. Yo the back of the hook.

STEP 3: Pull through both lps on the hook (1 knurl completed).

STEP 4: Rep in each sc across the row to the last sc.

STEP 5: Sl st in the last sc.

STEP 6: One row of knurls and sl st completed.

STEP 7: Ch 1.

STEP 8: Row 2: Working from right to left and in the rem lp, sc in 1st sc.

STEP 9: Completed sc.

STEP 10: Sc in each of the rem lps across the row.

STEP 11: Completed example of the Knurl st.

LOW BACK RIDGE (LBR)

STEP 1: Row 1: Working in the blps only, and with the WS facing, sk the 1st st of the row and sl st in the next sc.
