SEEK WAYS TO GIVE TO GOD’S WORK

God doesn’t need our money. He can run the world—He can run all of creation—without our financial aid. But God wants us to trust Him, and our giving to Him of our time, talents, and treasures shows that we trust Him. When we cling to God, when we trust in Him to be our ultimate Provider, we don’t need to cling to our money. Giving to support God’s work is one way we worship our good and generous heavenly Father. May we do so regularly as part of our lifestyle as God’s people—and may we do so cheerfully.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

MATTHEW 6:19–21

[Jesus] saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites. . . . He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”

MARK 12:41–44

Give to the LORD the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him.
Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness!

1 CHRONICLES 16:29

He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 CORINTHIANS 9:6–7

On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside.

1 CORINTHIANS 16:2

There is one who scatters, yet increases more;

And there is one who withholds more than is right,

But it leads to poverty.

The generous soul will be made rich,

And he who waters will also be watered himself.
