HELP THE POOR AND HOMELESS

What can you possibly do to help the poor and the homeless? What specific steps can you take in obedience to Jesus’ command to do exactly that? You can pray for the poor and the homeless—and for the people serving them. You can support financially those Christian organizations that serve the poor and homeless, and you can support individuals involved in that effort. And you yourself can serve. Go to a local outreach center that provides medical care, worship opportunities, and meals for the poor and homeless. When you do any of these, you are doing God’s work.

Above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

1 PETER 4:8–10

Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.

HEBREWS 13:1–3

Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.

PSALM 82:3–4

Whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
