Obituary

Mr. Clarence E. Glover of 2400 Red Fox Trail, Charlotte, died Monday, October 1, 1984, in Charlotte Memorial Hospital. He was born March 10, 1920, in Livingston, SC, son of the late Clarence Lesterjett Glover and Ida Carson Glover.

Mr. Glover retired in November, 1983 as the Regional Vice-President of Commercial Credit Corporation, headquartered in Charlotte. He was responsible for ninety-four offices of Commercial Credit Corp in five states: Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, North and South Carolina. He was responsible for marketing, operations and personnel in these offices. He had been associated with the company for 36 years.

On June 2, 1947 he was transferred from active duty in the U.S. Navy to the U.S. Naval Reserve Program. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve 38 years later as Lieutenant Commander. He was a 1941 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was a member of Dilworth United Methodist Church, where he had served as President of the Men’s Bible Class and on the Administrative Board of the church. Mr. Glover was Past Commodore of the River Hills Yacht Club and Past President and former Board member of the Navy League of Charlotte. He was a member of the Charlotte Rotary Club. He had served on the Board of Directors of the N.C. Consumer Finance Association. He was an avid sports fan and a member of the Gamecock Club.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 3, 1984, in Dilworth United Methodist Church, conducted by minister, Dr. Edgar Nease, Jr. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Glover; son, Clarence “Elliott” Glover of Charlotte; two daughters, Mrs. Elayne Glover Bennett of Washington, DC and Mrs. Diane Glover Cook of Charlotte; three grandchildren, John Robert Bennett, Molly Whiting Glover and Dorothy Carson Cook; four sisters, Mrs. Melba Wyndham of Orangeburg, SC, Mrs. Corinne Cardwell of Charleston, SC, Mrs. Freddie Phillips of Orangeburg, SC and Mrs. Julia Livingston of Livingston, SC. Friends may send memorials to Men’s Bible Class, Dilworth United Methodist Church, 605 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Bible Class.
