Part Two

The Spirits of the
Familiar Craft

Most importantly, remember that nothing in the spirit realm can harm us as long as we approach it with common sense.

Ted Andrews, The Intercession of Spirits

In the first section of the book we looked at the practices, tools, and foundational ideologies that make up the Familiar Craft. In this section we take a look at the four most common types of spirits that we come across in our art: angels, the dead, faeries, and demons. There is nothing simple about any of these entities, and each is but one type of spirit that we might summon or develop a relationship with as we study and practice the art. Each classification is radically different from another and contains numerous subspecies (sometimes referred to as races) that make up their masses.

What separates them from one another most distinctively is the density of their unique frequencies. Angels tend to be higher frequency, demons lower, and the faeries follow their own set of rules when it comes to these dynamics. It is important to keep in mind that what we know is very little compared to what we will likely discover about these beings. They have been with us since the dawn of time and will likely outlive us, possibly even long enough to see the end of time. For many of the spirits we will discuss in this section, our life spans are but a second in their time, and we are truly insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Some come with prejudices against us; others just want us to evolve and get it over already.

Whatever the spirit or its place of origin, the work presented in the first section will provide a platform for partnership. Rely on your instincts and reference this material as often as needed. Use the Keys of Hecate and keep yourself in a state of curiosity so you can experience the magic all over again for the first time. Allow yourself to become enchanted by the spirits, and remember to enchant them in return.

At the end of each chapter you will notice a unique seal. Each seal can be used to protect yourself against the corresponding spirit as well as to bind that spirit on any plane. Think of each seal as little insurance policies just in case you find that you need them. As you develop your skills, you will learn to trust yourself and the spirits you attract, but for now, know that you can always use these seals to aid you when you need a little extra help.
