   2.  A side note here: Beheading, which gained popularity during the First Chechen War between Russia and Chechnya from 1994 to 1996, was mostly reserved for men. The reason for this was as simple as it was grotesque: as video camera and Internet technology grew, those images made for sick, terrifying videos. Over the years, helpless Russian conscripts, bound American and European reporters, and contractors were all gruesomely dispatched on camera. However, very few women were beheaded. Though women are considered second-class citizens in many Middle Eastern nations, there is a conversely twisted reverence for motherhood that risked local backlash if women’s heads were both uncovered … and severed.
