DUN DIDN’T EMERGE FROM Stef’s room for five whole spans. The nervous folk from the catering rota who were tasked with sending him food sometimes heard talking, sometimes crying. More often than not they heard nothing and never did he respond to their calls or eat any of the food they brought. The remainder of the Rat Team returned muted, but intact. They had even had the foresight to get the floater working again and collected that. Various parties of folk in various numbers were sent to try and talk to Dun. After span three they stopped trying except for food.
Finally, at the end of span five after the catering team had left the usual tray of food and water, on their way back to the galley they heard the door to the room open, and then shut. Later they found the tray empty in the corridor.
The following span, the team got there to find the door already open and Dun not inside.
In the conference room, Tam and Bel were deep in conversation with Dasha and several other folk from various disciplines. As Dun entered, the room went silent.
“Okay,” he said. “Tell me about your war.”
