Ideal for when there are just the two of you to celebrate Christmas.
4 ripe figs
a knob of butter
2 tbsp clear honey
2–3 tbsp Armagnac or brandy
a small handful of shelled pistachio nuts or almonds
½ tsp ground cinnamon or mixed spice
mascarpone or thick Greek yoghurt, to serve
Takes 10 minutes • Serves 2
1 Preheat the grill to medium-high. Cut a deep cross in the top of each fig, then ease the top apart so it opens like a flower.
2 Sit the figs in a small baking dish and drop a piece of butter into the centre of each frut. Drizzle the honey over the figs, then the Armagnac or brandy. Scatter over the nuts and spice.
3 Grill for 5 minutes until the figs are softened and the honey and butter make a sticky sauce in the bottom of the dish. Serve warm with dollops of mascarpone or yoghurt.
