Long-billed Corella

Cacatua tenuirostris

Heinrich Kuhl was the first to describe the species, in 1820.

Cacatua is based on the Malay name for cockatoo, which refers to the large bill; tenuirostris joins the Latin words tenuis (slender) and rostris (billed).

Author’s note: Australia is home to three species of corella, all of which have an extensive patch of blue skin around their eyes, enhanced by a splash of orange-pink on the nearby facial feathers and, like the Galah, a frontal crest.
