Purple-crowned Lorikeet

Glossopsitta porphyrocephala

Lionel Dietrichsen was the first to describe the species, in 1837.

Glossopsitta combines the Greek glossa (tongue) with psitta (parrot); porphyrocephala means purple-headed.
