Strawberry and Apple Green Smoothie Recipe

Inspired by a recipe from SparkPeople.com, this recipe combines the flavors of apples and strawberries. It calls for frozen strawberries, since the frozen berries results into a nicely chilled smoothie that is perfect for a warm day. You can always use fresh strawberries and freeze them for a few hours before preparing this green smoothie. It also adds some protein powder to the smoothie, giving a nice protein boost to help you power through your busy day.

What You’ll Need:

- 2 tablespoons of flaxseed

- 2 granny smith apples

- 1 cup of fresh spinach leaves

- 1 cup of arugula

- 1 cup of romaine lettuce

- 1 banana

- 2 cups of purified water

- 1 ½ cups of strawberries, frozen

- 1 scoop of your favorite protein powder (not whey protein powder)

How to Make It:

Wash the apples and core them. Cut the apples into chunks. Wash the spinach, arugula and romaine lettuce and sit to the side. Peel the banana and cut it into chunks.

Pour the purified water into the blender. Add the spinach, arugula and romaine on top of the water. Begin blending on low speed. Continue until the greens blend with the water to become smooth. Place the flaxseed, apple chunks, banana chunks, frozen strawberries and protein powder in the blender. Start blending on slow once again, increase the speed as necessary. Continue blending until your smoothie reaches the consistency you prefer. Makes 2-3 servings.
