Crispy Oatmeal Cookies

1½ cups quick-cooking oats

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup firmly packed light or dark brown sugar

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ cup melted shortening

2 tablespoons hot water

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a baking sheet. Set aside.

In a large bowl combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, and baking soda, mixing well. Add the shortening and hot water. Mix well. Drop by ½ teaspoons onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from baking sheet and cool on wire racks.

Makes 6 dozen small cookies
