COOKIE DOUGH:
1 cup shortening or butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon maple flavoring
2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs
3¾ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup sour cream
FROSTING:
6 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon maple flavoring
½ cup evaporated milk
Confectioners’ sugar
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 cookie sheets. Set aside.
For the cookie dough, in a large bowl cream together the shortening, vanilla, maple flavoring, brown sugar, and eggs.
In a medium bowl combine the flour and baking soda. Add to the creamed mixture alternately with the sour cream, mixing well after each addition. Drop the dough by teaspoonsful onto the prepared cookie sheets. Bake 13 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Do not underbake.
For the frosting, in a medium saucepan melt the butter and cool to room temperature. Stir in the maple flavoring and evaporated milk. Stir in enough confectioners’ sugar until the frosting is of a spreadable consistency. Cover the cooled cookies with a thick layer of frosting.
