Zahra didn’t want to think about the fact that tonight would be her last night with Gregor. All she wanted to consider was how good he was making her feel at this very moment. He’d brought her to amazing sexual heights. It would take a long time for her body to recover from him when it crash-landed from his absence.
She moaned into his mouth when he ground his erection against her already eager core.
“You like that?” he asked against their joined mouths.
“Mmm-hmm,” was all she could manage.
“Good. Then you’re going to love this.”
Seconds later, he snaked down her body, peppering delicate kisses all over her skin. Between her legs, he teased her hardened sex with the tip of his tongue. Her back arched slightly from the intense sensations shooting through her like tiny rockets. He greedily devoured her. But when he inched two long fingers inside her and worked them with the same vigor as his tongue and mouth, her body twisted, turned and thrashed.
“I can’t... I can’t hold it,” she said.
“Then don’t,” he said.
Zahra cried out, then her body seized. Coming down off the high, she said, “I need to feel you inside me.”
She liked how instinctively bold she was with him. She’d never been what one would call sexually assertive until now. Gregor seemed to thrive off it, and that gave her more and more confidence to tell him exactly what she wanted.
After removing his underwear and placing on a condom, he flipped her onto her stomach in one swift motion, hiked her hips and gave her exactly what she wanted, hard and fast. Eager to receive, she met each of his powerful thrusts. The slapping sounds of great sex wreaked havoc on her concentration.
“More, Gregor. More. Please.”
As always, he delivered.
“I love it when you beg,” he said through what sounded like clenched teeth.
A beat later, he exploded inside her, his primal-sounding growls mixing with her moans, whimpers and cries from the delight she experienced from her own release. Unable to maintain an upright position, she dropped onto the bed. Gregor collapsed, too—half on the mattress, half on her. She loved the feel of his hot, slick flesh. The only thing that could be heard in the room was the sounds of heavy breathing and her soft pleasure hums.
Maybe this thing between them didn’t have to end. Maybe they could maintain this casual connection. Wasn’t it benefiting them both? He was on one side of Charlotte, she another. They could easily meet in the middle, then go their separate ways after they’d both gotten what they wanted. Just maybe—
Her cell phone vibrated, derailing her train of thought. Her service was so spotty inside the house, she was surprised a call had gotten through. Lifting it off the nightstand, she grimaced. Braswell. What did he want now? She’d said all she needed to say to him the last time he’d called her to plead his weak case, which was a couple of days before she’d arrived at Lake Lamont.
Dragging her thumb across the screen, she sent the call to voice mail. Though he was a continuous nuisance, his call had helped to bring her back to her senses, reminding her why continuing this thing with Gregor was a bad idea. She couldn’t risk her feelings getting involved. Truth be told, she was already starting to feel...something for him. Yeah, it was a good thing he was leaving.
“Who’s Braswell?”
Damn. He’d seen the name on the screen. Her first instinct had been to lie, but she decided against it. She had nothing to hide. “My ex.”
“Ah.” A second later he said, “Are you two still close?”
Was he slyly asking if they were still intimate? “Heck, no. We’re good and over. He just can’t seem to grasp it.”
“I know why,” he said, pinching her butt.
“Ow.” She swatted him playfully. “For the record, I offer far more than just good sex.”
“Great sex,” Gregor said.
Zahra smiled into her pillow. “Great sex.”
His arms tightened around her, and he kissed her earlobe before whispering, “I’m sorry for what he did to you. It sucks being betrayed by someone you never would have expected to deceive you,” he said.
Zahra found it strange that he hadn’t said by someone you loved. Had he not been in love with his ex? Had it only been a relationship of convenience? “Yes, it does,” she said.
Gregor sighed. “It makes you question being in a monogamous relationship at all.”
Those words caused Zahra to shimmy her body free so that she could face him. “Really?”
“Don’t tell me you’ve never considered that,” he said.
“No. There is something breathtakingly beautiful about two people truly committed to one another. Loving each other unconditionally. Voluntarily devoting their lives to each other. Building a life together. Something divine and soothing and amazing in having that one special person to protect, love, cherish, respect you. At all costs.” She paused a moment. “I’ve never had that, but I do believe it exists. And while I may have been dumped on by love, I’m still not against the sanctity of monogamy, because my parents show me every day that it’s possible.”
Gregor eyed her for a moment before saying, “Damn.”
Zahra laughed. “Too much?”
He pushed a wet strand of hair from her forehead with the tip of his index finger. “I wouldn’t have expected anything less from you.”
Gregor pulled her into his arms, and she rested her head against his chest. The thump of his heartbeat—strong, powerful—had become a soothing lullaby to her. Too bad she would have to get used to falling asleep without it.
